Working in oil paint on canvas my paintings explore the figure, their relationships to each other and their surroundings. I am interested in the dynamics between people, and maniputlating the spaces where they exist. My inspiration comes from many sources, my own family photos, found images and old home movies are all starting points. A photo offers me a place to begin, from there I interpret the image using colour and shapes to evoke nostalgia and connect individual stories with broader human emotions.
My ceramics are all hand built from porcelain and stoneware clays. They all have two firings in the kiln and are hand brushed with three coats of glaze. Each piece is one of a kind, uniquely showing my marks as the maker in their shapes. I want to convey beauty through the medium of clay, and my ceramics connect to my painting practice through in their expressive forms and use of luscious colours.
